52.4% Council Rate Rise Planned
In 2012 in an attempt to reform local government, the NSW State Government established an Independent Local Government Review Panel (ILGRP) which was solely formed to assess the performance of NSW Councils’. A report was made public in October 2013 titled ‘Revitalising Local Government’.
In response to that report the NSW Government embarked on a program to assess Councils current performance against a set of measures and benchmarks in order to develop an improvement plan.
The assessment process was designed to assist the State Government in identifying those Councils’ considered as being ‘Fit for the Future’. The Councils determined as not ‘Fit’ were faced with amalgamation. During the assessment process Port Macquarie Hastings Council was never considered for amalgamation by the Independent Local Government Review Panel (ILGRP), and based upon their own submission Port Macquarie Hasting Council was considered to be ‘Fit for the Future’.
